MIPS readiness – have you created your HARP account?

By Oncology Supply

Some practices see turnover during the year, not realizing that the staff member who left may have been their security official for reporting MIPS through the Quality Payment Program (QPP). For that reason, you may need to contact the QPP Help Desk to update your Security Official. If you have never logged in or created a HARP (HCQIS Access Roles and Profile) account, you will need to do so. The Quality Reporting Engagement Group created a step-by-step guide to help.

  • Gather your practice TIN, NPI from one clinician and the associated PTAN (Provider Transaction Access Number) for use after your personal account is created.
  • To access QPP, you need to create an account at: https://qpp.cms.gov/login and click on “Register for QPP.”
  • The next screen will have you click on “Register with HARP.”
  • You will then be asked to put in your personal information - not the practice information. CMS uses Experian to verify your identity by asking personal questions. They may ask questions like, “Which bank holds your mortgage?” or “Which address is associated to you?”
  • You will create a user ID and password as well as choose a challenge question to answer when needed. Once your remote identity proofing is completed, you will need to log in with the newly created user ID and password.
  • Set up two-factor authentication and select your preferred device (e.g., your mobile phone or email). CMS will send a code to that device each time you log in.
  • Once you have your account approved, you can connect to your practice by clicking on “Manage Access” in the left menu.
  • On the next screen, click connect to an organization. Find your practice by entering your TIN (with no dashes).
  • You will see the option to select a role. If there is not a Security Official currently connected to your practice, the only option will be to connect as the Security Official. This is where you will use the NPI and PTAN. Aside from the Security Official, the other option is to connect as a Staff User. When you select this role, CMS will send an email to the Security Official, notifying them of your request. If you run into issues connecting as the Security Official or do not know who the current one is, please call QPP at 866-288-8292.
  • As the Security Official, you can manage access for your practice. Your MIPS consultants, when working under contract, are added as Staff Users to give them access to your previous performance feedback and submit your current year’s reporting data.
