A healthier planet starts with us

Out of the office and into the community

Energy management

Energy management is critical to sustainability and an area that delivers value for AmerisourceBergen's stakeholders. We actively seek new ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs by making significant investments in our distribution infrastructure and advanced warehouse management systems.
We received a LEED Silver Certification at our Carrollton, TX office for our approach to green building standards, also featuring a community garden for associates to enjoy. We partnered with an energy optimization company to complete a LED lighting project at our Orlando, FL distribution center. In 2019, we completed construction of our on-site solar project at our Phoenix, AZ distribution center, and broke ground on our 2.27 MW PPA at our Sacramento, CA distribution center.
As an organization we continue to work together to build upon our commitment to being environmentally responsible. For more information on our climate and energy practices, see AmerisourceBergen's CDP disclosure.

Waste and water optimization

AmerisourceBergen and its associates are committed to recycling, as well as the reduction or total elimination of waste.
In 2019, we recycled approximately 4,860 metric tons of pallets, 60 metric tons of totes, and 193 metric tons of electronics. To save paper while improving the delivery experience for our customers, we launched a new initiative in Richmond, VA to replace Driver Ready Packs (DRPs) – such as paper copies of invoices and marketing flyers – with electronic invoice packets (ePacks).
In each of our distribution centers, AmerisourceBergen has implemented water efficiency practices and invested in automated and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
